Street in Kotlas

A traditional activity with Kotlas guests here for Russian Sampler is a trip to Cape Elizabeth to view the photogenic Portland Head Light. In spite of a heavy snowstorm earlier in the week the lighthouse was accessible. It was a crisp, sunny, March day so the view was spectacular. A stop at the coastline enabled the guests to put a hand into the cold Atlantic Ocean.

The next stop was the Portland waterfront. After a brief period of souvenir shopping a lunch at DeMillo's was in order. There they enjoyed clam chowder and lobster rolls. They even felt or imagined a slow rocking of the restaurant. The sea air had whetted appetites and all agreed that Maine lobster was delicious.

Picture stops with Eartha, the Delorme huge globe, and the Freeport Indian statue followed lunch. Then, since both educators on the trip were grandmothers, a shopping stop at Carter's Children's Clothing Store Outlet in Freeport concluded the day's activities. This snapshot view of a piece of Maine ended around 5 PM with all visitors returned to their host families.
